Pues hoy, sintiéndolo muchísimo, toca tema profundo.

Y es que la ausencia (y, en particular, la muerte) siempre me ha aterrorizado. Recuerdo que hace un par de años, cuando murió él, hice una serie fotográfica sobre el corto espacio de tiempo que separa la muerte de alguien del momento en el que su familia entra en su casa y recoge sus cosas.

Los objetos permanecen inmóviles, como si estuvieran dándonos un tiempo para asimilar que el final llegó, sin avisar, como siempre. Y es que, aunque él ya no estaba, su toalla, colgada detrás de la puerta del baño, seguía húmeda.

En esta línea os presento mi nuevo (y breve) proyecto, que trata sobre finales y objetos del pasado que no atienden al paso del tiempo. Espero que os diga algo (que supongo que es a lo máximo a lo que se puede aspirar cuando se crea).

El caso es que, cuando finalmente salió publicado aquel número de FIASCO casi se me caen las bragas (metafóricamente, ya que a día de hoy sigo usando ropa interior masculina) al ver el editorial que da título al post de hoy. Increíble. En serio, un diez al cásting, al makeup, al estilismo, a la fotografía y a todo. Desde aquel día soy fanboy de Thomas Lavelle. Y nada, sin más, os dejo mi selección -el edito completo lo podéis ver aquí.

Por cierto, con este post doy por inaugurada la sección inspirations (cada viernes, inspiraciones varias).

I remember that when I sent a (pretty mediocre) editorial to FIASCO last year and it got turned down, i got a little bit pissed off. Yes, I knew the photos were sub-par, but I used to take submitting my work really seriously. I’ve now learnt to deal with it in a less-stressful manner, but hey, I was young and unexperienced (as well as extremely perfectionist). The usual: artist with a huge ego and all that shit.

Thing is, when that issue of FIASCO finally got published, I almost peed my pants (metaphorically, that is) when I saw the editorial that titles today’s post. Pretty awesome. I’d give a ten to casting, makeup, styling, photography and everything else. Since that day I’ve been a Thomas Lavelle fan. Here’s a small selection, you can check out the complete editorial here.

Those of you who follow me devotedly (hi, mum) already know: i’m in the press! But seriously, this time, not like last post. This time i’ve been featured in an article in Antonia Magazine, a publication known for taking in those of us who the bouncers at Mainstream turn down with a without-brown-nosing-the-industry-you’re-not-getting-in. It was actually going to be an interview, but the editor was out of time, so basically the article has been written by me, but hey, it’s something.

My latest fashion editorial will soon be published in DOZE Magazine and you’re in time to watch the video-preview (by clicking here, exclusively). I’m in it, shooting with a Leica MP and Provia400, disgustingly posh style, so be sure to stop by and take a look.

El caso es que estuve por allí todo el día acreditado como prensa para Stain Magazine (gracias, majos), twitteando curiosidades y alguna gilipollez en tiempo real. El miércoles o así podréis leer la crónica completa, que prometo que será muy interesante (aunque quizás no 100% veraz).

Pero lo importante no es eso, sino que, cómo no, salgo en la foto de portada de El País (esquina inferior derecha). El karma me ha compensado por aquella mala pasada que me jugó en mi primera fiesta fashionista. Vale, salgo de lado, con los ojos cerrados, claramente prestando muchísima atención a lo que estaba ocurriendo (Moisés Nieto, que es el hipster barbudo que sale en el centro, acababa de recibir el premio a la mejor colección), pero salgo. Y, en fin, da para una (mediocre) anécdota.

Esta vez tampoco tiré ninguna cerveza, aunque sí que derramé un vodka con limón en uno de los sofás del Kissing Room (sorry). Menos mal que un jóven cachas disfrazado de mayordomo vino enseguida a recogerlo y nadie se percató.

Pues eso, que me lo pasé como un crío por allí entre amigos y chonis con medias de color carne.

Today’s post is all about egos. Mine (as usual) and the EGO, the catwalk for young Spanish designers that closed Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid yesterday.

Thing is, i spent my day there as accredited press for Stain Magazine (thanks, guys), live tweeting stuff that i find interesting and random shit. The full report will be available on wednesday, and i promise it will be extremely interesting (although not entirely true).

However, the important thing is that i’m on the cover photo in El País (lower right corner). Karma has paid me back for the fiasco of my first fashion party. Okay, so i’m sideways, with my eyes closed, clearly paying a lot of attention to what was going on (Moises Nieto, the bearded hipster in the centre, had just been awarded the prize for the best collection), but i’m in the photo. And, well, it’s good for a (pretty mediocre) story.

This time i managed to not spill a beer, although i did bathe one of the sofas in the Kissing Room in lemon vodka (sorry). Thankfully a young ripped guy in a butler costume hurried to clean in up before anyone noticed.

Anyway, i had an awesome time with my friends and all the chavs in skin-coloured stockings.

So, comments are disabled on my blog, but please stop by on Facebook to do so. C’mon, you know i’m adorable.

Por lo demás, igual algún día me publican un par de editoriales que están en el limbo de los editores de moda, esos extraños seres que te confirman la publicación y luego tardan un mes en volverte a contestar a un correo. Pero debe ser generalizado, así que me pongo unas barritas de incienso y unas velas de IKEA y a otra cosa butterfly (niños bilingües repelentes, lo más in).

Ah, e igual exponen unas fotos mías en ARCO. Pero lo de ARCO si que no hay quién lo entienda, así que si finalmente ocurre os lo contaré detalladamente.

Next sunday i’ll be at the EGO show, part of MB Fashion Week Madrid, invited by the guys at Stain Magazine (yay for them). And, while on the subject, you must read the article i wrote for them about the wonderful illustrator Sara Herranz: sms con tildes no, que me enamoro (only in Spanish, sorry).

Apart from that, maybe someday i’ll see a couple of my editorials published, which are right now somewhere in the fashion editor limbo. Fashion editors, those strange beings that confirm publications and then take about a month to answer to the next email. But it must be somewhat normal, so i light up some incense sticks and some IKEA candles and then insert-Spanish-only-joke.

Oh, and some of my photos might get exhibited at ARCO. But this ARCO thing is really wierd, so if it finally happens i’ll let you know the details.

A otra cosa: estoy colaborando con Stain Magazine con una serie de entrevistas tituladas Iba para profesión-seria-con-futuro y terminé en moda. Miguel Martín ha pasado ya por el aro, Fernando Gómez también y por ahí andan otros ingenieros y economistas frustrados como Eva Barrallo, Fai e Igor Termenón esperando a sentarse en La Silla. Y en fin, que feliz año (y eso).

Turns out i’ve put so much energy into this years’ new projects that i now have this nervous tick in my right eye that goes tick tick tick (check out this vídeo for further reference). And, come on, it’s the only thing i like(d) about my face.

Anyway, i’m collaborating with Stain Magazine with a set of interviews titled I studied for serious-profession-with-a-future and ended up in fashion. Miguel Martín has already sat down with me, so has Fernando Gómez and some other frustrated engineers and economists such as Eva Barrallo, Fai and Igor Termenón are waiting around to sit on The Chair. Pues bien, remitiéndome a la cita de Warhol, os dejo el vídeo del evento. Se me ve una ceja y media cara durante una milésima de segundo en el segundo 42 del vídeo, asomando por detrás de la cabeza que prácticamente tapa el encuadre (gracias, Nano). Tengo una cerveza en la mano, para más referencias.

Si sigo sumando milésimas a este ritmo calculo que para 2040 habré copado mis 15 minutos y seré famoso en el mundo entero.

Por lo demás, la fiesta bien, aunque luego tiré la cerveza sin querer (lo siento).
